Oh, I do like this one!
Do you think the background is maybe just a touch busy compared to his face/clothes? What if you did a transparency fade of sorts... so the lower area (by his neck) is just light green, and then it fades up to this background by the top of his head? (does that make any sense?)
I love Thoreau! My favorite quote is by him... "The world is but a canvas to the imagination."
